AHH! Has everyone else always been privy to the reality that "fridge" is spelled differently than "refrigerator?!" Why on earth IS this? And why have I never noticed it before?

This is almost as bad as finding out that my entire family was purposely mispronouncing "skibbies" in full cognizance of the rest of the skivvie-wearing world. I feel strangely betrayed.
